When you look back, Chelsea’s kit history has aged very well. The 00s aren’t always remembered fondly amongst kit fanatics, but in truth Chelsea were one of the teams of the decade. The Blues, working with both Umbro and adidas during the period, were particularly successful with a range of black away kits, and the 2008/09 upholds the tradition superbly.
This shirt is super stylish with all the trimmings of a 00s/10s adidas player issue kit. The Formotion construction, with its webbed panels and technological approach, is part superhero suit, part football kit, and the design would fit in just as well today as it did in 2008.
On the pitch Chelsea had a solid year with a 3rd place finish in the league, a deep run in Europe and most importantly an FA Cup win. Nicolas Anelka was on top form, and club legends Didier Drogba, John Terry and Frank Lampard all played their part during the campaign.
