The 1990s gave us peak Premier League.  It also gave us some of the best Sheffield Wednesday vintage shirts.

Bright, bold and unmistakably Wednesday, these shirts stood out as much as the football.

This guide takes you through the top picks — the classic Sheffield Wednesday shirts every collector should know.

1990-92 Sheffield Wednesday home shirt – the pinstripe Umbro classic

This is the Sheffield Wednesday vintage shirt everyone wants.  Blue body, white pinstripes, Umbro design — worn when they beat Manchester United 3-1 in the Rumbelows Cup final.

It was Wednesday’s last major trophy and a defining moment of the early 90s.  That same year, Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U was number one across the UK.

1991-93 Away – The yellow and black checkerboard

1992/93 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY Vintage Umbro Football Away Shirt (M/L)

Loud. Divisive. Unforgettable.  This Umbro away shirt features a black and yellow checkerboard design that’s now a cult favourite.  Worn during the club’s double cup final run in 1993, it remains one of the boldest classic Sheffield Wednesday shirts.

In cinemas, The Silence of the Lambs swept the Oscars — and Hannibal Lecter entered pop culture.

1993-95 Home – Puma takes over

1993/95 WADDLE Sheffield Wednesday Vintage Puma Home Football Shirt (L)Puma replaced Umbro with a bold new look: wide white shoulder panels and a central badge.  This Sheffield Wednesday vintage shirt saw the end of the Chris Waddle and David Hirst era.

It marked a shift on the pitch and in design.  In 1994, Blur released Parklife, and Britpop took over the UK charts.

    1994-96 Away – Understated in two-tone yellow

Calcio Vintage Club 1994-96 Puma Sheffield Wednesday Away Shirt L

One of the more underrated classic Sheffield Wednesday shirts.
Puma’s two-tone yellow design with a button collar offered something more refined.  Worn in a 2-1 win over Arsenal at Highbury in 1995 — with Chris Bart-Williams scoring the. winner.  That same year, Friends aired in the UK for the first time

1997-99 Home – The last classic before the drop

1997/99 DI CANIO #11 Sheffield Wednesday Vintage Home Football Shirt (L)

This shirt came just before the decline — bold blue and white stripes with a red Sanderson sponsor.  Paolo Di Canio wore it in that moment: pushing referee Paul Alcock after being sent off at Hillsborough.  An infamous incident. An unforgettable shirt.
In 1997, Titanic hit UK cinemas and became a box office obsession

1998-99 away – yellow and black statement

1998/00 DI CANIO #11 Sheffield Wednesday Vintage Away Football Shirt (M)This is peak late-90s design: Sanderson sponsor, white, black and yellow.  Di Canio wore it with flair — a reminder of the foreign talent era.
