  • The Best Football Shirts David Ginola Ever Wore

    Best Ginola shirt

Every era has its style icons, but Ginola wasn’t just fashionable by football standards - he was effortlessly cool in a way that made kits look better simply by association. Long hair flowing, socks low, collar popped when available. He elevated football shirts.

Picking the best shirts Ginola wore is really about picking moments.  Because with Ginola, the shirt is inseparable from what he did in it. So here are five of the best football shirts David Ginola ever wore, each tied to a moment that cemented them into football folklore.

What are the top Ginola classic football shirts?

    1993–94 Paris Saint-Germain Home Shirt

    1993 Ginola PSG

    Manufacturer: Nike

    Sponsor: Commodore

Before England truly understood Ginola, Paris already did.

PSG’s early-90s Nike shirts were bold, glamorous and unmistakably French.  Deep blue base, red and white central detailing, and a silhouette that felt closer to fashion than sportswear.  Designed by Nike legend Drake Rahmberg.

Ginola fit this shirt like it was tailored for him.

1994 Coupe de France final. PSG vs Nantes. Ginola is electric throughout, tormenting defenders and setting the tone as PSG lift the trophy. It’s a reminder that before he became a Premier League icon, Ginola was already a superstar.

    1995–96 Newcastle United Home Shirt

1995/97 GINOLA #14 Newcastle United Vintage adidas Home Football Shirt (S)Manufacturer: Adidas
    Sponsor: Newcastle Brown Ale

    This is the Ginola shirt.

Black and white stripes, grandad collar, Newcastle Brown Ale sponsor.

December 1995. Newcastle vs Manchester United. Ginola ghosts past defenders on the left, chops inside, and delivers that cross for Les Ferdinand. It’s effortless, almost casual.  The kind of moment that made defenders look like extras.

This shirt represents peak Kevin Keegan Newcastle: entertainers, title challengers, and utterly box-office.

    1995–96 Newcastle United Away Shirt

1995/96 Ginola #14 Newcastle United Vintage adidas Away Football Shirt (XL)

    Manufacturer: Adidas

If the home shirt was classic, the away shirt was pure mid-90s swagger.

Deep maroon and blue hoops, bold Adidas template, long sleeves hanging loose. It looked magnificent before a ball was kicked. On Ginola, it looked unfair.

Away at Leeds. The pitch heavy, defenders flying in, Ginola still dancing. A drop of the shoulder, a glide past two players, and suddenly the crowd is gasping rather than jeering.

This shirt captures Ginola at his most theatrical: silencing away grounds, making difficult things look insultingly easy. It’s also one of those kits collectors love because it feels like a very specific moment in football history.

    1997–98 Tottenham Hotspur Home Shirt

    Manufacturer: Pony

Ginola’s move to Spurs felt almost inevitable. White shirt, flash of colour, a London stage.  It suited him.  I loved Ginola's unveiling at Spurs.  Top off.  Not a care in the world.

The Pony Spurs shirt is underrated. Clean, sharp, and unmistakably late-90s, it became iconic largely because of who wore it.

April 1999. Tottenham vs Barnsley in the FA Cup. Ginola scores that goal.  Juggling the ball, flicking it over defenders, and smashing it into the net. It’s absurd, arrogant, and perfect.

This moment didn’t just win goal of the season. It won Ginola the PFA Players’ Player of the Year - a rare feat for someone outside the title contenders.
