We caught up with Jay from The Eagles Beak to talk about “Fly Virgin” sponsored Crystal Palace kits, purple Fiorentina shirts and “the best away goal” ever scored at Old Trafford.
My first ever football shirt was at a young age when I followed the fortunes of Liverpool (for my sins), the classic Hitachi kit of the late seventies/early eighties. I do not talk about it much for obvious reasons. My first Palace kit was the 1988/90 Fly Virgin sponsored shirt which was famously worn in our fantastic cup run.Wrighty and Pards donned this Palace shirt in the late'80s 🦅

Darren Ambrose's Wonder Goal Against Manchester United https://t.co/lCY8x8xsY7 via @YouTube

That is quite the question and so hard to decide. For me, the best goal I have ever seen is van Basten for the Netherlands against USSR in the European Championships. Simply stunning.
For Palace, three stand out. John Salako against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup (1991) from distance. Great composure. The second is simply for pure adrenalin and the while meaning, Mark Bright with the leveller in the FA Cup Semi Final against Liverpool in 1990. That run from John Pemberton down the wing at the start of the second half was simply brilliant. Liverpool did not know what hit them. Thirdly, Darren Ambrose at Manchester United in the League Cup at distance. Nothing more needs to be said other than the comment from Gary Neville “the best away goal ever scored at Old Trafford".
We have our own collection of stunning, vintage Crystal Palace shirts in stock, including that famous Fly Virgin 88-90 jersey. Browse the whole collection here.
