1992-94 was a game changing year in football for a number of reasons. First up the birth of the Premier League, the start of Manchester United’s dominance and Umbro began to introduce lace into their shirts.
It was a bold move that added a touch of nostalgia and class to the new shirts they were releasing that year.
First up we love this shirt because Fergie wore a fake moustache to launch it. Secondly it’s a classic. The green and yellow of Newton Heath with a thick black lace. Look how happy Eric is wearing it.

So its a bit controversial but I might just like this Ipswich shirt more than the United. The base of the shirt has a blue triangle effect and the red, blue and white collar is banging.

1992-94 Aston Villa shirt
Another classic from Umbro. This time the lace is a more subtle white colour to contrast the Aston Villa home colours. Guaranteed to remind you of Tony Daley.
Sadly this run was Umbro’s last big push on the lace colour. Our verdict a stunning if not practical take on the football shirt. Bravo.
