The World Cup is not going to be the same without the Azzurri this summer. Their blue shirt is one of the most iconic and recognisable in world football. It is simple and classy. In 1997-98 they had an absolute beauty of a shirt made by Nike.
The shirt had the Azzurri badge and white trim with collar and blue neck. It was a classic. We asked our Instagram followers who it reminded them of and 3 names kept on popping up. All having played for AC Milan.
AC Milan captain and defender played 126 games for Italy scoring 7 times and spent half of the time as captain 74 times. Sadly for Paolo he didn’t win a trophy for Italy but at least he got to wear some sick shirts.
The Italy and Inter Milan striker scored 23 goals in 49 games for Italy. He performed well at World Cups with 5 goals in France 1998 and 4 in 2002 making him Italy’s joint World Cup goal scorer, with Roberto Baggio and Paolo Rossi.
The divine pony tail played 56 times for Italy scoring 27 goals making him the 4th highest goal scorer. He is the only Italian to score in 3 World Cups. Weirdly he never played in a European Championship.
