Remembering when Middlesbrough conceded 4 Goal of the Month contenders

If you ever want to make ex-Middlesbrough goalie Mark Schwarzer cry take him back to October 2007.  Middlesbrough went on a run of conceding absolutely world class goals, 4 of which were chosen in the Match of the Day, Goal of the Month.   Manchester United scored 2 along with Brazilian’s Elano (Manchester City) and Alex (Chelsea).

I don’t think we’ll see a Match of the Day Goal of the Month where 40% of the goals were scored against one team.

Elano Manchester City v Boro

Cattermole (this is the start of a theme) mis-controlled it, Michael Johnson (remember him) back heels it to Elano.  The Brazilian takes a touch, looks up and smashes it in.

Alex Middlsesbrough x Chelsea

Another week, another Brazilian.  This time Alex from 35 years out with a ridiculous free kick.  There was barely a wall and the free kick curled into the top corner.

Nani Manchester United v Boro

At this point spare a thought for Mark Schwarzer.  This is getting ridiculous.  Nani dribbled past Luke Young and mate Lee Cattermole before rifling a shot in the top corner.

Tevez Manchester United v Boro

The flick from Carlos to Wayne, the back heel pass back to him and the cool finish.  Class.

Remarkably despite their horrendous October Boro finished in a respectable 13th.
