The mid 90s were a golden era for Aston Villa. Regulars in the top 6, a class defence and Dwight Yorke banging in the goals up front. They also loved talking about their favourite drinks.
In the summer of 1995 Aston Villa with Brian Little in charge signed; Mark Draper, Gareth Southgate and a glamorous forward Savo Milošević. They also had a new kit maker in Reebok who took over from Asics.
Savo Milošević moved to Villa for £3.5m – a club record fee. They had broken their transfer record for their most exotic signing who joined the club with long hair and a bandana on his head.
Savo’s time at Villa never really lived up to expectations and got a tough time in the press due to his dry spells in front of goal. But the striker’s record wasn’t actually that bad. He scored 29 goals in his 90 odd games – nearly 1 in 3 – and he scored in the cup final.
Reebok created a simple and clean Villa shirt. It had a huge collar, big crest and AST Computers on the front.
