There are players who wear a shirt well, and then there is Ronaldinho, who made every shirt he wore look like the best day of someone's life. A gap-toothed grin under a green-and-blue Grêmio hoop becomes, within a few seasons, the reason grown adults still hunt down a Barcelona #10 two decades later - and it happens again in Paris, in Milan, and all the way home to Brazil in yellow. Grêmio 1998–2001 Home

I remember signing Ronaldinho on Champ wearing this shirt.  Before anyone outside Brazil knew the name, Ronaldinho was already terrorising Campeonato Gaúcho defences in Grêmio's green, black and white hoops. He made his senior debut for the club in 1998 as a teenager and, over three seasons, scored 47 goals in 89 appearances - the kind of ratio that gets a 20-year-old noticed by clubs an ocean away. This is the shirt of the player before the fame, the one serious collectors of his career chase precisely because so few were watching at the time. Not currently in our archive, but a genuine gap worth closing given how early it sits in his story.

Brazil 2000/02 Home, #7 – Sydney Olympics 2000

Still a Grêmio player when Brazil called him up for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Ronaldinho wore #7 for a squad packed with the next generation of Brazilian talent. It's an easy shirt to overlook next to everything that came after, but it's also one of the earliest pieces of evidence that the rest of the football world was about to find out what Grêmio already knew.

Paris Saint-Germain 2001/02 Home, #21

PSG paid Grêmio a reported £5 million for Ronaldinho in January 2001, and he spent two seasons in the French capital wearing #21 - genuinely brilliant in patches, occasionally overshadowed by the noise around his lifestyle in Paris, but still the player who scored 17 goals in 55 appearances for a club that wasn't yet the superpower it is today. It's also the shirt he was wearing that summer he went to the 2002 World Cup and made the rest of the world sit up.

Barcelona 2003/04 & 2004/05 Home, #10 – Ronaldinho Arrives

Ronaldinho is by far the most collected Barcelona player in our own sales data, and it's these two seasons - his first two at the Camp Nou, wearing the #10 for the first time in his career - that most of those units come from. Barcelona hadn't won the league in five years when he arrived; two seasons later they were champions again, and the football itself had started to feel like something worth queuing up to watch. The classic Nike template of the period, deep maroon and navy stripes with that distinctive collar, is the shirt every serious Ronaldinho collector wants first.

Barcelona 2005/06 Away, #10 – The Bernabéu Standing Ovation

November 2005, away at the Santiago Bernabéu, and Ronaldinho produced one of the great individual away-day performances in Clásico history - a brace that tore Real Madrid apart so completely that their own supporters stood and applauded him off the pitch. It's the goal FSC contributor David Diehl picked without a second's hesitation when we asked him for his all-time favourite:

Barcelona played that night in their away kit - the exact 2005/06 away shirt isn't currently photographed in our own archive, so the shot above is the closest-season away template we hold, rather than a claim that it's the precise match-worn design.

Barcelona 2005/06 Home, #10 – Ballon d'Or & Champions League

The peak. Ronaldinho won his Ballon d'Or in December 2005 on the back of the form that produced that Bernabéu performance, and finished the season lifting the Champions League as Barcelona beat Arsenal in Paris. FIFA named him World Player of the Year in both 2004 and 2005. If one shirt sums up the version of Ronaldinho that made every other kid in the world want to practise flicks in the garden, it's this one.

Barcelona 2006/07 Home, #10 – The Final Season

Barcelona finished as runners-up in 2006/07, and it's generally reckoned to be the season the wheels started to come off - the parties got more attention than the performances, and a teenage Messi was starting to look like the future of the front line. It's still a genuinely collected shirt, not for the trophies but for what it represents: the last full season before Barcelona's most joyful modern-era Brazilian moved on.

AC Milan 2008–2011

Barcelona sold Ronaldinho to AC Milan for around €21 million in the summer of 2008, and the black-and-red years never quite recaptured the Camp Nou magic in full - though there were still nights of pure Ronaldinho, not least a memorable long-range strike against Roma. He left Milan by mutual consent in January 2011, several months before the club won that season's Serie A title, so this era sits in our archive as a genuine gap rather than one of his trophy-laden spells. The Victory Lap – Flamengo, Atlético Mineiro, Querétaro & Fluminense (2011–2015)

The final chapter of Ronaldinho's career took him home to Brazil and eventually to Mexico: Flamengo (2011–2012), Atlético Mineiro (2012–2014), Querétaro (2014–2015) and a brief nine-appearance spell at Fluminense in 2015 before he called it a day. The best of it, by some distance, was Atlético Mineiro's 2013 Copa Libertadores win - South America's Champions League equivalent - where a 33-year-old Ronaldinho contributed four goals and eight assists across the campaign, proof the magic hadn't entirely gone even as his body slowed down. None of these four eras currently appear in our sales data or stock, but they're too big a part of the story to leave out of this list.

Brazil National Team, 1999–2013

Ninety-seven caps, thirty-three goals, and one World Cup winner's medal. Ronaldinho wore #11 for Brazil at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea - Rivaldo still had the #10 - and it was in that yellow shirt that he announced himself to a global audience: two goals and three assists across the tournament, including the 40-yard free-kick against England in the quarter-final that's still replayed today, before a needless second yellow card cut his afternoon short. Once Rivaldo stepped away from the national side, Ronaldinho inherited Brazil's #10, and wore it right through to his international retirement in 2013.
