Newcastle weren’t great between 1997 and 1999.
They finished 13th in the Premier League two seasons on the bounce under Kenny Dalglish (and eventually Ruud Gullit). They were beaten finalists in the FA Cup final both seasons too, losing to Arsenal in 1998 and Manchester United the following year.
The team was a mixed bag. There was undeniable quality in the likes of Alan Shearer, Gary Speed and Rob Lee, but there was a fair few duds too.
Their kit between those years is a mixed bag too. Take a look:
It has the greatest sponsor Newcastle shirts have ever had, Newcastle Brown Ale, but, well, we’re not sure whether the whole thing works.
