How this Tottenham legend created the craziest moment in FA Cup history

Paul Gascoigne made his name at Tottenham Hotspur, having joined the club from Newcastle in 1988.

After dazzling on Tyneside, he became one of the most exciting players this country has ever produced, combining skill, panache and showmanship to wow the Spurs and England faithful.

One of his finest moments both on and off the pitch came in the 1991 FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham’s most bitter rivals, Arsenal. Here it is, in all its glory:

Not only did that blistering free-kick help Tottenham to the FA Cup final (thanks, also, to a Gary Lineker brace) but Spurs would go all the way, beating Nottingham Forest in the final 2-1.

Gazza continued to steal the show after the game against Arsenal had finished, with a memorable post-match interview that’s one for the ages.

Have you ever seen anyone more excited about getting a suit fitted?

This moment was one of the greatest, and maddest, in FA Cup history, while the free-kick and subsequent interview perfectly sum up Gazza’s prowess on the field and his loveable personality off it.

How can you not love Gazza?
