With a successful career spanning Japan, Italy and England, and anulous array of beautiful football shirts along the way, Nakata’s electric play on the field was matched by his immense impact on the Japanese game.

Nakata’s European story, which paved the way for footballers across Asia, began in Perugia. The shirt he wore in his debut season was all sorts of crazy, with a giant crown-adorned phoenix across the body and pinstripes across multiple areas of the shirt. Made by niche brand Galex, the shirts remain highly collectable not least because of Nakata’s association.
