Football shirts are a bit like time machines. They’ll remind you smell of the club shop, the feel of the fabric, the player you thought you were in the playground. That’s exactly why the West Ham Pony kits of the mid-90s are still so popular.
Pony kitted out the Hammers from 1993 to 1999. Peak Premiership years territory and a golden window that gave us some of the most distinctive shirts in the club’s history. And if you grew up around that time, chances are one of these was your shirt.
Shop authentic vintage West Ham shirts.

Let’s start with the obvious. “Dagenham Motors” splashed across the front shouldn’t work… but it absolutely does. It’s big, bold and unapologetically local. No global tech brand. Not a gambler. Just pure East London. It roots the shirt in a place and time.
Some shirts are elevated by the players in them - and this one had a cast.
Julian Dicks thundering penalties. Ian Bishop gliding around midfield. Luděk Mikloško between the sticks. You don’t just remember the West Ham shirt - you remember who you were pretending to be in it.
Before slim-fit templates and athletic cuts, there was this. Baggy. Boxy. A bit oversized. Perfect. These Pony shirts hung off you in that unmistakable 90s way - whether you were five-a-side under the lights or diving around the living room pretending to be Julian Dicks.

Sam Diss nails it in his interview with us.
“My first football shirt was the beautiful claret and blue West Ham home shirt by Pony. You know the one: brass buttons, silken material, embroidered bubbles all over the gaff, a whacking great white ‘Dagenham Motors’ splashed across the front. I think it might’ve been 1995, and it was tiny because I was, and came with matching shorts and socks. I think my mum, bless her, has that kit on a teddy bear in the loft now.”
This is where Pony went big..
Ask anyone about these shirts and you don’t just get design talk - you get memories.
In our interview with Chris Scull he told us about his first shirt.
“A West Ham 1993 home shirt that I got in the club store and I can still remember the smell of the club store, it was so exciting, and I had Martin Allen put on the back. At the time, his name was on the back as "Allen M." – I don't know why, it's not a thing. That was my first ever shirt; it was lovely.”
West Ham’s Pony shirts are everything we love about 90s football kits. Big bold and baggy, with an iconic sponsor and remind you of your favourite player.
