The best vintage green Liverpool shirts

Liverpool and adidas have just launched the brand-new 2025 third shirt. And yes — it’s green.

But this isn’t the first time the Reds have gone emerald. Over the years, green has popped up in some of the most memorable Liverpool shirts, from chequered madness in the 90s to Gerrards breakthrough and peak Torres.  Here are five of the best.

1991 Liverpool Away by adidas

adidas. 3 stripes on the should. Candy on the chest.

The 1991 away shirt is a cult classic. Worn by a fresh-faced John Barnes, Ian Rush and co it marked a changing of the guard at Anfield.  

It’s bold, it’s weird, and it’s very, very 90s. A proper vintage Liverpool shirt.

1995 Liverpool Away – Carlsberg

Green body. White sleeves. Big Carlsberg sponsor.
This was Robbie Fowler’s shirt. The local lad with bleached blond hair banging in goals for fun, hat-tricks for breakfast. By 1995 he was already a Kop hero.
The kit is simple but sharp — and forever linked with the man they called “God.”

1986 Liverpool goalkeeper shirt – Crown Paints

Ok we've cheated a bit here.  Bruce Grobbelaar in a green adidas keeper shirt. Enough said.

This was the year Liverpool won the Double — league and FA Cup — and Grobbelaar was as eccentric as ever between the sticks. Classic trefoil, Crown Paints sponsor, and that unmistakable Liverpool dominance of the 80s.   

1999/2000 Away – Reebok

The late 90s were a weird time for Liverpool shirts. Reebok gave us this green and navy away kit with a chunky collar and Carlsberg sponsor.

But what makes it special is the player wearing it — a 19-year-old Steven Gerrard. This was his breakthrough season. Crunching tackles, driving runs, and a taste of the leadership that would define him for the next decade.

It’s not the flashiest Liverpool shirt, but it’s steeped in meaning. The shirt of Gerrard’s arrival.

2008 Liverpool away – adidas

Peak Fernando Torres.  Adidas went bold with a dark green away kit, trimmed with gold. Sleek, sharp, and made for the Spanish striker who couldn’t stop scoring. Torres hit 33 goals in his debut season, terrorising Premier League defenders and lighting up Anfield on European nights.

This shirt is tied to that magic. Torres at full flight. Gerrard behind him. Liverpool looking like contenders again.  A modern classic — and already a must-have for vintage Liverpool shirt collectors.
