From Usain Bolt to Michael Jackson, Elton John to Russell Brand, football has had its fair share of celebrity fans – some, it has to be said, more fair-weather than others. And there’s something about seeing an A-lister (less so a Z-lister) donning a club’s colours that gets fans talking – one way or another.
Who can forget Delia’s cries of ‘Let’s be having you’ (there’s probably a lot of people who would like to forget) or Noel Gallagher celebrating scooping the Premier League in 2019 with his City icons with an impromptu rendition of ‘Wonderwall’ (Liam would probably like to forget that one). But it’s not just Delia and Noel flying the flag for football teams as our Twitter followers established when we asked you to hit us up with pics of celebrities in team shirts. There are a fair few surprises thrown in there and more than a sprinkling of big hitters, but whether it’s just a celeb gimmick or a genuine love affair, we’ll leave that up to you to decide…
You know your team’s made it when Hollywood comes calling…
Take Kiefer Sutherland sporting the unmistakable tartan offering from Celtic in 2014 when the Bhoys notched their fourth consecutive league title.

Who knew Verne Troyer was a fan of The Peacocks, but here he is sporting the 2014/2015 home shirt from Macron.

Stranger things have happened than Millie Bobby Brown being a self-proclaimed Red, although the 2016/17 NB home kit accented in amber is far from the most iconic Liverpool shirt.

It doesn’t get much better than Aragorn, Ranger of the North and King of Gondor, backing your team (okay, Viggo Mortensen if you want to be pedantic). Not only has he rocked a number of shirts from Argentinian side San Lorenzo de Almagro, he even wore a San Lorenzo waistcoat at the Oscars in 2019 – now that’s dedication!

Rocky wearing the Toffees’ 2014/2015 home shirt almost proved to be a lucky charm, with the Blues reaching the Round of 16 in the Europa League.

These music stars have their finger on the football pulse – or at least they’ve got the shirt…
Can’t fault Lil Uzi Vert for this choice of the 2018 Club America third kit, an absolute banger.

Drake almost single-handedly cemented the pink Juventus 2015/16 away shirt as one the shirts of the decade, and his penchant for donning a Juve item has spread to others.

Saint Johnstone fans may have thought they’d struck the big time when Lionel Richie was pictured with their 2017/18 home shirt, but sadly he was just as accommodating for Chesterfield, Carlisle and Shrewsbury as he announced a UK tour!

Whoever said football and politics shouldn’t mix…
Prince William’s love of the claret and blue is well-known, but what we’re all wondering is if he’s gone for the classic 1994 home or away shirt under that jacket?
I know its not a shirt but... pic.twitter.com/kpeQmSR3NR

Ever wondered about who has got the best football shirt collection ever. Answer: The pope. You only have to search the web to find images of him clasping Brazil, Juventus and… Sunderland shirts. Or, as here, San Lorenzo… I imagine him and Aragorn have a lot to talk about!

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson knows a great football shirt when he sees one and we can’t disagree with this 2011 Olympikus Flamengo classic.

Not a bad back three for Rangers, I’d suggest… Although Mike Tyson seems undecided on his allegiance, but who are we to argue:

Speaking of famous artists and celebrities wearing football shirts, have you seen these kits inspired by the legendary rapper Tupac? They’re pretty tasty.
