We caught up with football writer Aidan Williams to talk about his first Newcastle United football shirt, grandad collars and Marco Van Basten’s spectacular volley. This interview was done as part of our My First Football Shirt series.
My first shirt was a Newcastle United shirt from about 1981.
If Castore bring this design back to Newcastle I think we'll all be pretty happy 👌

The favourite shirt I owned was either Newcastle United 1996 grandad collar shirt or a 2006 shirt from when I lived in Japan. My favourite shirt not owned would have to be something iconic and simple like the 1970 shirt.

For me the best goals are those that are stunning and meaningful, particularly if the stakes are very high. So Van Basten for Holland against USSR in Euro ’88 final is one of the best. Or Baggio’s late winner for Italy v Spain in the 1994 World Cup quarter-final.
