As 2021 begins, we’re nailing our colours to the aesthetically pleasing mast of Fluminense. The Brazilian side have always had some of the best looking football shirts in world football, but their latest 3rd shirt captured our hearts in a way which few kits have managed to in recent years.
Did those retro @UmbroBrasil shirts catch your eye yesterday? Why not take a look at their work for @FluminenseFC's 20/21 third shirt 😍👇
In fact, as we did previously with Venezia, we decided to share the love and bring in the shirt to offer up to collectors like you! If you follow us on Twitter or Insta you would’ve seen pictures of the design, and perhaps you’ve already picked up the kit.
For those who haven’t quite made the jump though, here are 5 points to ponder...
At the time of writing, Football Shirt Collective are the only place in the UK where you can buy the 2020 Fluminense shirt. This is simply not a shirt you’ll find bouncing around several sites in the sales period at the end of the season, and instead you’re looking at a rarer piece that’d usually be much harder (and more expensive!) to source for yourself.
I should mention the price at this stage too; an incredibly competitive £49.99! For a BNWT shirt shipped from the UK, it doesn’t get much better.
And, as we’ll come on to in our second point, there are more advantages to buying ‘locally’...
2. Avoid any import fees or Brexit markups
The impact of Brexit is a hot button issue as we start the year (and we’ll be covering the subject in more detail soon for Collectors Club…), and when buying the Fluminense shirt from us you won’t have to worry about any additional markups that you might be face when buying from outside the UK.
When buying shirts from South America, you’ll also typically be charged some sort of import fee. This can range in price and can often arrive unexpectedly, so avoiding that brings significant peace of mind.
3. The Brazilian shirt that’s a bit different
Brazilian shirts are in vogue at the moment, and many retailers have been offering fantastic deals on a great range of designs. This Fluminense shirt isn’t one that's been on the sales rack though, so if you’re the kind of collector who likes to go against the grain once in a while, this is for you.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a cheap bargain, but I’d also rather than have one shirt I love instead of two great deals that I could probably find later down the line on eBay anyway.
4. 125 years of history, detailed
The 2020 Fluminense third shirt was one of my favourites across all teams last season. BNWT and just £40 in the sale, sizes S,M,XL and XXL available.
Umbro’s theme for their 2020 3rd kits was “125 years of football”, and they subsequently packed their designs with additional details dripping in heritage. There are club specific cuffs, with feature details within the famous diamonds, patches nodding to the heritage of the brand and classic crests designs.
I love it when you can soak in a shirt both for it’s overall aesthetic, and the small but mighty touches best experienced in person, and the 2020 Fluminense 3rd shirt certainly ticks both those boxes.
Quite simply, I consider this Fluminense shirt to be one of the best of 2020, sitting in the very top tier of designs alongside the likes of Red Star FC and Forward Madison.
As a collector, I enjoy picking up my favourite shirts from any given year (if I can!), and as such the Fluminense shirt was a must for me in order to catalogue 2020. In 5, 10, even 20 years time, it will serve as an example of the best of shirt design from its period; a shirt which exhibits everything you want to see in a kit no matter who you support or what your shirt preferences are.
You can buy the fantastic 2020 Fluminense third shirt from Umbro for just £49.99. If you’ve read this far, you know why that’s a good deal...
