FSC Approved - 2021 Venezia home shirt

They’ve only gone and done it.

Venezia’s new 2021/22 kits were easily some of the most anticipated designs of the year, and expectations were extremely high as Kappa rolled into town in time for the club’s return to the top flight of Italian football.

I’m very happy to report that those expectations have been matched, and some.

Venezia Away The Ultimate Modern Football Shirts Venezia Concepts

The 2021 Venezia home shirt is a generational design. Possessing a refined elegance that has been often missing in the modern day football shirt landscape, the design leans heavily on the iconography of Venice with a number of pleasing aesthetic touches.

It all starts with the gold details. A recoloured version of an alternate Venezia crest is just one of a number of standout features, with the gold Kappa logos on both the front and sleeves adding to proceedings. The gold theme continues with the club name in the sponsor position, a continuation of one of my favourite details from previous seasons. There’s yet more gold in the form of a fantastic scatter pattern, forming a 'V' and comprising of a number of small suns inspired by the city’s gilded churches and monuments.

Underneath all this is a luxurious black texture which possesses a story of its own. Far from being just another run-of-the-mill marl pattern, the design was actually created using photography of aged façades taken around the lagoon. This sort of bespoke treatment is typical of creative agency Fly Nowhere, who have once again collaborated with Kappa on the shirts, and it’s the sort of subtle story which elevates a shirt from great to legendary.

Perhaps my favourite detail (there are plenty to choose from) is the small flag at the very centre of the shirt. The detail is a nod to the supporters of the club, and unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll know just how important the Arancioneroverde colours have been to the club. It’s one of the most beautiful colour schemes in sports, and I can’t wait to see the colourway across Serie A stadiums next season.

It would have been easy for Fly Nowhere and Kappa to play things safe in year 1 of the new deal, but no one is resting on their laurels here. Somehow Venezia have been able to improve on perfection, and we can’t get enough of it.
