The latest set of Italy kits are undoubtedly some of the best in world football this year. In fact, you could easily make a case that they are the best set of home, away and third kits across club and country.

From a thematic standpoint, the collection oozes class. Elements of Italian renaissance can be found at every corner and the pattern on each of the kits is unique, whilst retaining a unified design approach.

There’s virtually nothing I would change about the collection, that was until I saw the handiwork of @TheFootballGal_.

Diana Al Shammari, known as The Football Gal on social, is arguably the biggest name when it comes to the art of football shirt customisation. Her incredible embroidery skills have enhanced dozens of classic designs, and her latest project has seen her team up with Puma and yes, the Azzurri.

This is one of those times when my job is very easy. I don’t need to tell you how good these look.

It’s one thing to add additional details or embellishments, but it’s another to add elements that manage to find another gear within an already strong theme.

The best thing about Diana’s work here is that it doesn’t get in the way of the already magnificent shirts from Puma. The additions are beautifully arranged so as to add interest, without taking away from what was so good about the kits in the first place.

Things only get better as you zoom in more closely. The detail and texture of the embroidery leaves me feeling weak at the knees, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to enjoy the actual kits quite as much now.

Unfortunately for all of us, these shirts are one-offs, but for what it’s worth someone at Puma ought to be handing the keys to Diana for some major 2021/22 kits…
