Killa Villa honour the legacy of Tupac with their latest drop

No brand is as skilled and dedicated to bringing together the worlds of hip-hop and football as Killa Villa.

Creative shirt collections come and go from many groups, but Killa Villa consistently produce beautiful kits that are laced with a love for 90s hip-hop culture. Their latest drop draws on a source from the very top.

Tupac Shakur’s legacy stretches far beyond the world of hip-hop, and the 90s icon is the focus of Killa Villa’s latest kits. One quote in particular, “For every dark night, there’s a brighter day”, is utilised both figuratively and literally across the shirts, and it’s just one of many tasteful nods.

Perhaps my favourite feature is the crest. Tupac’s image is stylised beautifully as the focal point of the crest, and on the home kit the shield sits on top of a bed of golden leaves. It’s a beautiful combination that elevates one of the most tried and tested colour combinations in sports, and indeed the predominantly monochrome palette works wonders for both home and away.

Flip the home kit over and a gorgeous rose detail sits neatly within a panel near the top of the back. Framing this rose is the aforementioned quote from Tupac in a great looking typeface, and the same quote can be found on the away.

From a pattern perspective, the home opts for a completely clean approach in contrast to the away, where a version of the eternal “Naija” graphic is utilised to great effect in a subtle light grey on top of the white base. It’s one of the best remixes of the design I’ve seen since the Nigeria kit itself, and it’s a nice example of how a pattern can be given a new lease of life when moving in a different direction to its original iteration.

Both ‘sponsor’ graphics “nod to Shakurs’ rebellious nature” according to Killa Villa, with the “Thug” text on the home shirt inlaid with a paisley pattern, drawing on the look of Tupac’s legendary bandana.

You can pick up the new Killa Villa Tupac home shirt on our marketplace, and whilst you’re there we stock a range of Killa Villa’s back catalogue too. There’s plenty of shirt goodness to sick your teeth into.
