We asked the lads on Instagram who this 1999-00 Arsenal away shirt reminded them of and the surprise unanimous winner was Croatian left footer Davor Šuker.
In the summer of 1999-00 Arsenal did the most un-Arsene Wenger thing. They signed a bonafide top player from a top club. Davor Šuker signed from Real Madrid for a cool £3.5m.
The Croatian left footer, completed a forward line of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Nwankwo Kanu to give Arsene Wenger plenty of options.
The Gabriel Byrne look-a-like only had one season at Arsenal but scored some absolute pearlers. He opened his account with a brace against Aston Villa including the most satisfying of goals. An indirect free-kick in the area. A proper thunderbastard .
My favourite Suker goal came away to Coventry City (1:27). The ball came to Suker in the box. He cut inside one, rolled it past another before curling it into the corner. Also worth a watch of that lob against Sunderland (1:40). Lovely.
Suker scored these goals wearing the 1999 Arsenal home and away shirts.
The 1999-00 Arsenal away shirt was made by Nike and has a yellow base, SEGA sponsor and the traditional Arsenal crest. As part of the sponsorship with the SEGA Dreamcast the shirts had Dreamcast on the home shirt and SEGA on the away.
