Is this player the only one liked by both Chelsea and Tottenham fans?

Chelsea and Tottenham fans don’t much care for each other.

It’s one of those London derbies that always seems to deliver the goods. Whether it’s a Harry Kane demolition job (Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea, 2015) or an Eden Hazard masterclass (Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham, 2016 (plus 12 yellow cards…)), there’s always something worth watching in this fixture.

Such is the level of disdain between the two sets of fans, that there’s little they agree on. One group think Kane is an overrated chancer, the other think he’s one of the world’s best No 9s. One group think John Terry is a good bloke, the others really don’t.

But every now and again there’s a player that two sets of rival supporters quite like. One such player is Gus Poyet.

The former Uruguay midfielder put in exceptional shifts at both clubs, spending four years at Chelsea (36 goals in 105 league games) and three years at White Hart Lane (18 goals in 82 games).

The Uruguayan spent time at both Tottenham and Chelsea

But, despite leaving Chelsea for Tottenham, the majority of Blues fans, who saw him as surplus to requirements when he departed in 2001, didn’t begrudge him for rocking up at Spurs. And he managed to earn the adulation of Tottenham fans too, with his range of passing and eye for a goal.

A rarity, but Poyet could be one of the few players who’s not just respected, but liked, by both Spurs and Chelsea fans. Name another one…
