In 1987 Tottenham Hotspur played out an FA Cup final at Wembley in one of the finest shirts that has graced the showpiece.
The North London club face Coventry City in what BBC commentator John Motson called “the finest Cup Final I’ve had the pleasure of commentating on”.
Spurs played the game in their new kit for the following 1987-88 season but with white shorts instead of blue. Due to a mix up only half of the Spurs players wore Holsten sponsorship on the shirts.
The shirt didn’t bring too much joy to Spurs on the day. Despite going 1-0 up in 2 minutes through Clive Allen they ended up losing to Coventry City 3-2 in extra time.
Coventry equalised through Dave Bennett Gary Mabbutt restored the lead. Keith Houchen made it 2-2 but then in extra-time Mabbutt scored an own goal when the ball rebounded off his knee.
Either way we think the shirt is an absolute banger. Nothing beats a Hummel shirt at Wembley.
We’ve dropped 20% off all vintage Spurs shirts and casual wear. Check out our sale today.
