Every Spurs fans favourite German returned back to the Lane during the 1997/98 season before hanging up his boots on an illustrious career spanning almost 20 years. Fondly remembered for his prolific partnership with club legend Teddy Sheringham during the mid 90’s.

Jurgen Klinsmann had a glittering trophy cabinet, having won the World Cup, Bundesliga and the UEFA cup twice with spells at heavyweights Bayern, Inter Milan and of course, the German national team.

Yet having achieved all this, Jurgen had unfinished business to deal with and at the start of 1998 he returned back to his beloved Tottenham Hotspur with one task – help keep relegation threatened Spurs in the premier league. Handed the number 33 Shirt, Klinsmann delivered the goods – scoring an impressive 9 goals in just 15 matches. Perhaps his finest game in a Tottenham Shirt came during a 6-2 dismantling of Wimbledon in which ever sprightly Klinsmann scored 4.

Spurs survived and finished 14th whilst Jurgen Klinsmann retired from the game, ending up as the club’s tied top scorer that season with 9 goals, alongside David Ginola.

Tottenham may not have reached the heights of the current team whist wearing this shirt but thanks to Jurgen, it’s still deemed a classic to this day.
