The Arsenal shirt will remind you off absolutely everyone who wore it

There are certain football shirts that are synonymous with players and moments.  1989 Arsenal away and you think of Michael Thomas.  Mid 90s Nike shirts with collars, and you think of Ian Wright.  Not the 1999-01 Arsenal away shirt.  It’s a bit of an anomaly. It reminds us of absolutely everyone who wore it.

We are asked Instagram who the 1999–01 Arsenal away shirt reminded them of and it’s fair to say a few players came to mind.

Here’s the full list of players mentioned:

  • Dennis Bergkamp
  • Sylvain Wiltord (?)
  • Ray Parlour
  • Davor Suker
  • Nicolas Anelka
  • Ray Parlour
  • Robert Pires
  • Patrick Vieira
  • Tony Adam
  • Kanu
  • Sylvinho
  • Gilles Grimandi
  • Emmanuel Petit
  • Thierry Henry

Pretty impressive.  The whole squad got a shout out.

The moment that stands out has to be Thierry Henry opening his scoring record for Arsenal away to Southampton.  With the ball back to goal he takes a touch and curls it into the far corner.

As for the shirt.  It had a yellow base with navy sleeves.  The best part is the classic Arsenal crest and SEGA sponsor.
