West Ham are on cloud nine at the moment. They’ve beaten Manchester United and, even though they were late to the party, their season is well and truly up and running.
But back in 1989, the Irons weren’t looking too sharp in terms of football. In fact, they were battling it out in the Second Division, and in the 1989-90 season missed out on promotion.
The following season they managed to make it back into the top flight, finishing second under Billy Bonds, but it wasn’t the greatest time in the club’s long and illustrious history.
The shirt they wore back then was pretty sensational though. The claret-and-blue colours were elevated by the Irons print in the kit’s design, and the BAC sponsor and BUKTA badge make it a vintage classic, even if the football played in it was anything but.
