What are Tottenham playing at? Not only have they failed to sign a single player in the summer transfer window (despite manager Mauricio Pochettino admitting they needed to strengthen at the end of last season), but now they’ve only gone and released one of the worst football shirts you’re likely to see.
The launch of Tottenham’s third shirt seems to have gone down like a cup of cold sick among fans, and we can see why: because it looks woeful.
We’re fans of originality, but this is just something else.
This is what they write on Tottenham’s official club shop: “The Mens Spurs Third Shirt 2018/19 is the official replica shirt the Spurs players will wear on the pitch in Europe and some domestic matches, you’ll be sure to see the masses wearing this replica design Spurs third shirt in the stands for the 2018/19 season. The mens Spurs third shirt features Nike Dri-FIT technology keeping you dry and comfortable.”
Let me stop you there, Spurs. “You’ll be sure to see the masses wearing this replica design Spurs third shirt in the stands for the 2018/19 season.” I mean, you really won’t, because it’s horrendous. Just look at it:
The kit has a map of North London embroidered into its fabric, a nod to the club’s roots. And we don’t mind the thought behind that – plenty of great kits have a place stitched into the shirt. Anyway, the design is quite ugly, but it’s the colour we’ve got real problems with. The putrid green-and-blue colour scheme really isn’t working for us… and we’re doubtful that Tottenham fans are keen on it either.
Thankfully, they’ll only be wearing it in Europe and a handful of domestic games. Not a future classic.
