World Cup 2018 kit ranking: Russia kits could have been so much better

The World Cup 2018 host nation Russia have it all to do when the tournament kicks off this Thursday. Their pre-tournament results have been anything but impressive, having lost against Brazil, France and Austria, while scraping a draw against Turkey.

But even if the football’s garbage, the kits aren’t too shabby. But they could be much better.

Here’s how we’ve ranked their home and away shirts for the 2018 World Cup.

Home shirt:

Manufacturer: Adidas
Price: £49.96 (Adidas website)
Ranking: 5/10

Meh: It’s OK, but it’s hardly pushing the boundaries

Russia’s red-and-white colour scheme should be a gift for kit designers, but Adidas’s effort this time around isn’t quite cutting it for us. Think back to the punchy Soviet Union strips of the Eighties, or even the kits from the late Noughties. It could’ve been so much more.

Away shirt:

Manufacturer: Adidas
Price: £49.96 (Adidas website)
Ranking: 6/10

Better than the bland home shirt, but the white-and-navy shirt’s pattern isn’t quite doing it for us either. As host nation, they’ve got added pressure to put on a show, and that goes for the kits too. They’re not terrible, but they’re not earth-shattering either. They’re just, well, a bit dull.
