West Brom aren’t having the best of times, but at least they won’t ever create a worse kit-launch video than this.
Ahead of the 2015-16 season, the Baggies made one of the strangest decisions in digital marketing history.
Watch the clip below. And yes, that was their official unveiling video:
Not only is it utterly peculiar, it’s also a really convoluted joke.
It starts with a long clip of Craig Dawson (in an old West Brom kit) bringing down Wilfried Bony in the penalty area in a game against Manchester City. But referee Neil Swarbrick sends of Gareth McAuley instead, in a massive refereeing howler.
After the reasonably forgettable clip finishes playing, Dawson, Darren Fletcher and Joleon Lescott appear on screen, and a meek voiceover begins selling us the new West Brom home kit.
“Available to pre-order now,” the narrator announces. “The new West Bromwich Albion home kit. We think it’s something you will be able to recognise.”
It’s terrible but somehow fascinating at the same time. Give whoever came up with this idea a promotion.
