This illustration of George Weah will remind you of when he went “coast to coast” for AC Milan

Illustrator, Alvaro Tapia Hidalgo has brought to life one of the greatest Serie A goals for the ‘Your Football Shirt‘ project.  George Weah going “coast to coast” for AC Milan.

The illustration shows the Liberian President going through all the stages of scoring that goal all whilst wearing with his red, diadora boots and Lotto AC Milan shirt.

It was chosen by Amy Lawrence, football writer for The Guardian as her favourite goal.  She even fell off her sofa whilst watching it.

George Weah’s virtuoso goal versus Verona (1996) has stuck in my mind ever since I watched it on Channel 4 and it made me actually fall off the sofa. He picked up the ball in his own penalty area, sashaying the entire length of pitch, past a string of opponents, to score. Such power and elegance.

The illustration is part of the “Your First Football Shirt” project.  30 interviews.  30 illustrations.  Raising money for CALM and The Willow Foundation.
