Arsenal were on a run of 14 games without a win against Liverpool and their driving force in midfield Patrick Vieira was facing disciplinary issues.

His midfield partner, Emmanuel Petit had been sold to Barcelona and the Frenchman was struggling to adapt.  He got sent off in the first game of the season and then against Liverpool.

Referee Graham Poll lost the plot and sent off 3/4 centre midfielders playing.  Vieira for Arsenal and Gary McAllister and Dietmar Hamman for Liverpool.

Arsenal went 1-0 up through Lauren but the winner was scored by Thierry Henry who curled in a lovely finish after his initial short was saved by Westerveld.

As he ran off in celebration Henry, lifted up his shirt to reveal a vest with ‘bang goes the 0-0 draw’ written on it.
