In 1996 Nike launched the Good v Evil advert with Manchester United's Eric Cantona, Barcelona's Figo and pals taking on the devil.

There was a roll call of absolute legends. Campos in net, Maldini at the back, Figo, Rui Costa, Davids, Brolin (random?), Ian Wright (having a go at the ref), with Kluivert, Ronaldo and Cantona up front. After a tricky start, there was a break in play with Ian Wright moaning to the ref the team of all stars smash it and Cantona boots the ball through the devil's stomach. That wasn't the weirdest thing about the ad however. Most of the players weren't wearing Nike football shirts.

Eric Cantona in an Umbro Manchester United shirt

The hero of the piece Eric Cantona was bossing the 1994-96 Manchester United home shirt made by Umbro with a huge crest and big collar.

Luis Figo in a kappa Barcelona shirt

Before getting smashed from behind by the meathead with metal in his mouth Figo was rocking a slick Barcelona kappa shirt.

Imagine that happening today. Not only would you not get non Nike talent to feature in their advert but there wouldn't be a chance in hell their kits would be featured.

We have plenty great Nike shirts in our vintage shirts collection. Browse them all here
