Arsenal fans were given a ray of hope yesterday.
With the disruptive Alexis Sanchez gone, life could begin again at the Emirates. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored on his debut while fellow new boy Henrikh Mkhitaryan dished out three assists in the 5-1 rout of Everton. Mesut Ozil, fresh from signing a new contract, dazzled too, and Aaron Ramsey scored a hat-trick. A pretty perfect day after a fair few difficult ones.
Aubameyang, who has been so cut-throat in front of goal during his time at Borussia Dortmund, looks like he’ll be pretty popular in North London after marking his first appearance in red and white with a characteristically cool finish.
His steel in front of goal reminded us of an Arsenal great with a similar composure in front of goal: Ian Wright.
The former England striker (along with Thierry Henry) was someone who you could always back to bury a one-on-one at Highbury.
It also got us thinking about one of the greatest away shirts Arsenal have ever had: this absolute stunner from the 1995-96 season.
The all-blue colour scheme, the lettering on the back of the shirt and the jagged design absolutely scream: CLASS.
Looking at this shirt, we could see Aubameyang, who has a penchant for dressing pretty loudly, wearing it himself.
We’re of half a mind to send it to the new Emirates hero to see if he’ll give us some free publicity…
