The 1992-93 CIS shirt worn at Euro 92 is an absolute classic and was worn by some absolute legends including Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis.
The shirt looks like it belongs in a Gosha Rubchinskiy SS18 collection. It is bright red with CIS embroidered in the middle of the shirt and the 3 white adidas stripes on each shoulder.
As the Soviet Union has formally ceased to exist on 1 January 1992, so did all its organizations including the football federation. 2 days later, the Association of Football Federations of CIS was formed and approved by FIFA. They had a banging anthem in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
The CIS national football team has some Premier League legends including Manchester United’s Andrei Kanchelskis and Chelsea’s hoarder of magnificent goalie shirts, Dmirtri Kharine.
They played at Euro 1992 and not surprisingly they finished last in the group picking up two notable draws with Germany and the Netherlands, before being beaten 3–0 by Scotland in what turned out to be their last match and then end of this cracking shirt.
