Back in the late 1990s, Everton had some incredible kits.
Head and shoulders above them all, perhaps, is the 1997-98 away shirt. Not only was it sponsored by Danka (and then One2One) and made by the quintessential kit manufacturer of the time, Umbro, it was worn by Duncan Ferguson and Danny Cadamarteri.
The graded blue-and-yellow stripes, coupled with the iconic sponsor, make this shirt a classic.
The team weren’t too clever that season though. They scraped survival in the Premier League on goal difference (Bolton Wanderers went down instead) and crashed out of both domestic cups in the third round.
The shining lights in that Howard Kendall side however were Big Dunc, Nicky Barmby and the late, great Gary Speed.
If that side achieved a little more in that shirt, you’d think it’d have been remembered as the classic it really is.
