Robert Pires picked his teammate XI on Sky Sport’s ‘One to Eleven’ and its fair to say it was filled with legends. It had good blend of France World Cup winners and Arsenal ‘invincibles’.
Goalkeeper – Fabian Barthez
Barthez. Not because he’s French but because he’s a little bit crazy. He played for Monaco and Manchester United.
Right back – Lilian Thuram
He was a hard defender. Strong and fast with a good mentality. When I joined the national team he was a good example.
Left back – Ashley Cole
I played 5 seasons and I don’t know why but it was easy to play with him. He was a hard defender with good technique.
Centre back – Laurent Blanc
For him, football was easy. Simple. When you have a guy like Blanc at the back he is good security for the team and the goalkeeper.
Centre back – Tony Adams
You need a player like Tony. Strong mentality and leader. Sometimes you need a player to kick the other team. He was the best captain I’ve ever played under.
Centre midfield – Patrick Vieira
He’s a natural. It was fantastic to play with him. As a footballer he was amazing. A very good captain.
Centre midfield – Gilberto
Very good technique and a true pro.
Attacking midfield – Zidane
For me he’s the best ever. Football for him was simple and sometimes too easy. Not bad.
Attacking midfield – Youri Djorkaeff
Very good technique. He was clever on the pitch.
Striker – Thierry Henry
What can I say about Titi. He’s the best striker. For me, to play with Titi and Zidane was a great pleasure.
Striker – Dennis Bergkamp
Everyone called Dennis the maestro. He was the best.
