Ronaldo is probably my favourite ever striker. Strong. Fast. Skilfull. He had it all. In 1996/97 he joined Barcelona from PSV for a then world record fee of $19.5m. He did not disappoint and scored 47 goals in 49 games.
If you have 5 minutes spare watch this video of his 10 best goals from that season. I love it for his explosive pace, finishing and the reactions from his manager, Bobby Robson. Phenomenal.
Here’s how Marcus Speller remembers it
That goal Ronaldo scored for Barcelona against Compostela where he bursts past about 4 or 5 men like he’s a wild beast leaving Bobby Robson in sheer awe on the sidelines.
I love the kappa Barcelona shirt from that season. It was bright red and blue with kappa print on the shoulders. It’s class.
Ronaldo sadly only had one season at Barca but in that season he won the … UEFA cup, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España. He also finished top goal scorer in La Liga and won the European golden boot. What a player.
