GK: Shay Given.

He was unbelieveable.  I would do finishing practice with him.  When I hit  it I would turn away to celebrate and out of no where he would save it.

RB:  Steve Finnan.

Every week he would also get a 7 or an 8.  And he won the Champions League with Liverpool and took the trophy on a night out with us and I got to touch it.

CB:  Richard Dunne.

He was a man mountain.

CB:  Ledley King.

We were in the same youth team together at Tottenham Hotspur.  He was so good on the ball he played in the hole behind the striker.  He was immense.

LB:  Ashley Cole.

He was the best left back in the world.  He came to Palace on loan from Arsenal.   The shirt was 5 sizes too big for him.  His work rate and energy levels were on a different level.

CM:  Roy Keane.

The Manchester United captain was immense for Ireland.  Roy Keane wore his shorts high.  His socks high and black diadora boots.  He set standards.  Keane would bang passes into you and if you couldn’t control it he would say you shouldn’t be here.

CM:  Attilo Lombardo.

I remember when we were at Palace he used to have 3 or 4 cigarettes on the way to training but when we got there he set an example.  He trained how he played.

CM:  Damien Duff.

This guy had it all.  The things he could turn defenders inside and out.

FW:  Christophe Dugarry.

He was unreal at Birmingham.  When we played Chelsea Dugarry beat up Marcel Desailly.  He once got in an argument with Darren Purse about a misplaced a pass.  It continued into the dressing room but Dugarry ended it by saying.  Look you’ve got to respect me I’ve won the World Cup.

ST:  Emile Heskey.

Our partnership at Birmingham was amazing.  He does all that work for you and was a great friend.

ST:  Robbie Keane.

His goal record at international level will never be touched.  He wasn’t the quickest but movement was unreal.

saturday well-spent (1)
