In 2008, Robinho turned into one of Manchester City’s most expensive signing, during his 16 month spell at the club the Brazilian International failed to make an impact.

Speaking about his time at the City, Robinho admits that he did not know he was joining until the last minute as he was set to join Chelsea.

Robinho, who was known as one of the most exciting young prospects in the mid 2000’s, was closely linked with Chelsea during the 2008 season, he was all set to sign for the London side until a last minute deadline day twist.

It was set for Robinho to move over to Stamford Bridge and the club even released images of a Robinho shirt on the club website.  This upset Madrid as they felt it was disrespectful, although it may have been an error, this is one of the main causes for the transfer falling through.

Robinho admits his goal was to move to Chelsea, who was managed by Luiz Scolari at the time, although the Brazilian says he is happy he joined Manchester City.

"It was on the very last minute but with me it has always been like that.

It was really important, a team that opened doors for me. It was a big transfer. At that time City didn't have many big players in their team but it is a club that have a lot of love and respect."

Robinho scored 13 Minutes into his City debut against Chelsea.  The Brazilian failed to live up to his expectations in the Premier League only scoring 13 goals in his city career.

Would his English career been different with a move to the Blues let us know what you think.
