Liverpool were absolutely battered by Tottenham at the weekend.
And, although their defence has only conceded one goal at home in the Premier League this season, they’ve been thumped a couple of times on the road.
The four they shipped at Spurs was the latest in a sequence. Jurgen Klopp saw his side battered 5-0 at Manchester City, concede twice at Leicester and once at Newcastle before the hammering at Wembley.
So bad has Liverpool’s defence been in recent performances, that one of the most calamitous defenders in the club’s history has laid into the current crop.
Djimi Traore, who was something of a laughing stock during his time at Anfield, took to Twitter to make his feelings known, saying: “No way you can win a trophy with that defence #TOTLIV come on @LFC wake up”
Traore, who is now an assistant at MLS franchise Seattle Sounders, did however win the Champions League with Liverpool back in 2005, so perhaps calling him the club’s worst ever defender is a tad harsh.
