Juventus and AC Milan legend Andrea Pirlo believes one of Manchester United’s most revered former players is among the best midfielders of all time.
The former Italy international is a huge fan of Paul Scholes, a central midfielder who played in a similar style to the Italian pass master.
Pirlo has so much respect for Scholes that, when talking about Scholes before the Champions League final in 2015, he admitted he was disappointed to have never played with the Old Trafford icon.
“I have been so fortunate to have played with so many incredible players throughout my career,” Pirlo said, “but if I could pick one that I never got the chance to play with, it would be Paul Scholes.
“One of the all-time greats. A genius on the field, but private – no circus around him off it. I have a lot of respect for him.”
Just imagine those two playing side by side in an Alex Ferguson Manchester United midfield. Hard to imagine how the opposition would get a kick.
