Newcastle legend Sir Bobby Robson had a way with words, especially when it came to Manchester United.
The late, great manager perhaps made one of his greatest remarks about one of United’s more underwhelming legends.
Paul Parker was a Gary Neville style full-back: tenacious, tough, and above all, reliable.
Robson selected Parker, who was at United at the time, to be part of his 1990 England World Cup squad.
England would go close to reaching the tournament’s final, only for Germany to beat them on penalties. Obviously.
How did Robson describe the dogged Parker? Over to you, Bobby.
“The little lad jumped like a salmon and tackled like a ferret.”
Parker didn’t seem to mind all that much. He even named his autobiography, Tackles Like a Ferret.
