Every Premier League football shirt from the inaugural weekend featuring some Arsenal, Manchester United & Tottenham Hotspur monstrosities

25 years ago was the birth of the Premier League.  A season that gave us Brian Deane, Alan Sugar hiring Ossie Ardiles and 14 hat tricks.  It also provided some sensational football shirts including these bangers from Arsenal, Manchester United and Spurs.

August 15th was a gloriously sunny day and Snap! enjoyed the number one spot in the charts with “Rhythm is a Dancer” – a position they’d hold onto for a month.  It would prove to be the soundtrack to pretty much every season of the Premier League years on Sky.

The kits on show had a different feel than today.  No template kits.  No betting sponsor and no oil money in sight.

On the football shirt front Umbro were the dominant force as the kit makers for 11 teams.  Including some bangers for Manchester City, United and Spurs.

Arsenal and adidas had their famous bruised banana and Crystal Palace controversially switched their kit maker from Bukta and Ribero in December.

There were also some class sponsors.  QPR with Classic FM and Spurs with Holsten.
