- Lacazette scored a header for Arsenal in a 4-3 win over Leicester City.
- As did Jürgen Klinsmann for Tottenham Hotspur v Sheffield Wednesday in ’94.
- But the best thing about that match was Colin Calderwood’s own goal.

Arsenal’s 4-3 win over Leicester City last night was reminiscent of Jürgen Klinsmann’s debut for Tottenham Hotspur against Sheffield Wednesday.
Both Arsenal’s Lacazette and Tottenham Hotspur’s Jürgen Klinsmann big summer signings from the French League. Lyon and Monaco. They scored deft headed goals on their debut’s in the Premier League opener. And both matches resulted in a 4-3 win for the North London clubs.
Jürgen Klinsmann signed for Tottenham in the summer of 1994. He was unveiled at White Hart Lane in the most 90s photo ever. A huge baggy shirt and scarf next to Ossie Ardiles in salmon shirt and patterned tie. Strong look Ossie.
Spurs started the season away at Sheffield Wednesday and it is fair to say Ossie Ardiles went for it with a 5 up front formation. The goals rained in for both teams but the German striker scored on his debut heading in Darren Anderton’s floating cross – a bit like Lacazette and Elneny last night.
David Lacey in the Guardian said of the goal
As one of [Darren] Anderton’s deceptive, drifting crosses floated into the goalmouth, he took one pace forward, two steps back and so completely fooled [Des] Walker that he appeared to score with a free header. It was nothing of the kind. Klinsmann put a lot of thought into his first English goal.
Klinsmann’s goal celebrated with one of the most iconic in Premier League history by leading his team mates into a dive across the pitch.
His celebration was overshadowed by an unbelievable belter of an own goal scored by Colin Calderwood. Have a look in the video above.
