There was a huge Emerson and Robbie Mustoe shaped hole and the Chelsea man moved nearer and nearer to the Boro goal and with out anyone closing him down smacked it in from 30 yards out, over Roberts’ head. Imagine. All that planning and then you go do 1-0 down in 45 seconds.
it was the fastest ever FA Cup final goal and was voted as the 3rd greatest FA cup final goal on the BBC.
It rounded off a tough season for Middlesbrough who lost the League Cup earlier that season and were also controversially relegated from the Premier League. Life comes at you fast.
Di Matteo and Chelsea were wearing the 1995-97 Umbro Chelsea home shirt with Coors sponsorship on it. It had a huge crest and the crest emblazoned in the print of the shirt.
