This Arsenal goal v Barcelona is the best they’ve scored in the Champions League

7 years ago today Arsenal beat Barcelona in the Champions League.

It was a beautiful move scored with fast incisive passing.  Wilshire, to Cesc, outside of the boot to Nasri, cut back, Arshavin.  Goal. Arsenal won the first leg 2-1 but eventually went out 4-3 on aggregate.

Wenger wanted to show Arsenal could rise to the challenge

We want to show how good we are. We want to win this competition, we know we face the super-favourites but the only way to do it is to knock them out.

BBC journalist Phil McNulty thought Arsenal showed courage

It is stretching reality to breaking point to suggest Arsenal were the better side against Barcelona, far from it, but this was such a show of moral and physical courage from the Gunners that few would begrudge them their win.

Cesc thought the Emirates was rocking

The atmosphere was definitely one of the best I have experienced at Emirates Stadium. The supporters were truly special – they kept us going and went crazy at the final whistle.
