Remember when Ronaldinho rejected Manchester United and headed to Barcelona instead?
In 2003, the Brazilian World Cup-winner chose the Catalan giants instead of a Manchester United side that included the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Paul Scholes.
Many United fans felt hurt after missing out on a player who would go on to win it all – including the Ballon d’Or – while at Barcelona.
Scholes shared United supporters’ feelings toward Ronaldinho, and in typical fashion, had a nibble at the tricky Brazil playmaker the next time he had the chance.
Scholes told the Republik of Mancunia blog about the time he came up against Ronaldinho shortly after he signed for Barcelona.
“We were on the pre-season tour and it looked like he was going to sign for us and he ended up signing for Barcelona,” he said.

“And we were playing Barcelona on the pre-season tour. Because he didn’t sign for us, everyone wanted to boot him and kick him, but you couldn’t get near him. Brilliant player.”
With Scholes’s tackling ability and Ronaldinho’s peerless technique, it’s hardly any wonder that the United legend couldn’t even get close to the Brazilian.
