This Shearer volley for Newcastle against Everton is in his top 3

13 years ago Alan Shearer scored one of the Premier League’s greatest goals for Newcastle United against Everton.

Bobby Robson had built a decent team with Laurent Robert, Kieron Dyer, Given and Shearer that would go on to finished third in the Premier League.

Newcastle United were looking at defeat by 10-man Everton until the goal.  The ball was played in by Laurent Robert, nodded down by Ameobi before being belted into the top corner.  Bosh.

Shearer put it in his top 3 goals

It will be up there in my top three goals

That volley was one in a hundred I think.  But when I hit it I knew I’d caught it sweet and the keeper wasn’t stopping it.

Moyesy didn’t see it coming

I thought Newcastle had tried everything and had nothing left

The crowd moaned when Shola headed it (David, in the crowd)
I was behind the goal with my Dad and we both (as did most of the Gallowgate) moaned when Shola got a half hearted nod on the ball, there was an instance of silence and you could hear the thud of Shearer’s boot hit the ball, magic moment.
