Tottenham striker Janssen reveals heartbreaking family tragedy

Vincent Janssen’s early career at Tottenham hasn’t been a walk in the park, but it’s nothing in comparison to the struggles in his early life.

Earlier this season, Janssen shed light on a devastating family tragedy: the untimely death of his brother, Jan, when Vincent was just six years old.

Jan passed away following a battle with leukaemia.

Janssen lifted the lid on the horrendous event, telling The Sun: “I often think Jan would have been proud of me, I am sure he sees me occasionally.

“I still remember the last two years before his death very well, even though it was 16 years ago.

“Jan had leukaemia. My parents lived with him at the Ronald McDonald Huis in Leiden where he was nursed.

“Eventually they came home but a short time later doctors revealed the cancer had spread everywhere. Not long after he died.”

The Holland striker, who joined Tottenham for £17million in the summer, has struggled to get to grips with life in the Premier League, having impressed at AZ Alkmaar last season.

Mauricio Pochettino has shown faith in his signing though, and continues to hand the 22-year-old game time. Let’s hope he bangs in a few soon.
