John Terry is Mr Chelsea.
John Terry embodies everything a Blues fan wants to see from their centre-half and captain.
He’s experienced, he’s tough, he’s won it all and leads by example (on the pitch, at least). Chelsea fans seem to love him all the more simply because other football supporters can’t stand the guy.
He was also, many years ago, a baby-faced debutant. 18 years ago, Terry made his first appearance for Chelsea, replacing Dan Petrescu in a League Cup tie against Aston Villa.
Chelsea battered Villa that day, winning 4-1 with Gianluca Vialli scoring three times and Tore Andre Flo chipping in with another.
Terry was introduce in the 86th minute, and slotted into a team including Celestine Babayaro, Jody Morris, Neil Clement and Dennis Wise.
It’s amazing to see how fresh faced Terry was back then. Who could have called that he would go on to become the club’s greatest ever centre-back.
Here’s what Terry looked like in his debut season…
